Thinking like s scientist

Room 2 have been learning about thinking like a scientist...

Yesterday were learning to use I wonder and I notice statements to notice a change in substance. We were also learning to use our senses to help us look closely and think like a scientist.

Experiment one:

We put warm water and yeast in all of the test tubes. Then we added vinegar in the first test tube, baking soda in the middle test tube and sugar in the last tube. We then observed any changes. We noticed that the tube with the sugar started to make the yeast go up. It was getting warm and getting more energy. The yeast was eating the sugar! It produced carbon dioxide!

We left the tubes over morning tea! When we came back the test tube with sugar in had exploded over the top of the test tube!!!

Experiment two - the sugar and yeast mixture produced a gas which made the balloon blow up!

Room 2 are enjoying learning about science! It is important at this age to encourage curiosity that's why we have a big focus on asking I wonder questions. At the moment It's all about exploring, having fun and noticing scientific change. We also used our senses to notice what things smelt like, felt like, looked like and sounded like.

Week 7 home learning.
