Week 4

This week we are learning about the phoneme (one sound) c (Corey Clown) and the numeral 6

Talk to your children about this sound, write it, find things that start with this letter.

Practice handwriting the number 6 and C (they both start at the same place).

We are also learning about the life cycle of a monarch butterfly (specifically the caterpillar this week).

We are learning that this cycle is called a metamorphosis.

so far this year...

We have already covered the sound e (Elmer Elephant) and f (Rainbow fish)

COOPERATION is our VALUE this term. Ask your child what COOPERATION is? What does it look like at school and at home?

Elmer Elephant - We are learning to identify what makes us unique and special and to identify that we are all unique and special.

Rainbow Fish- We are learning how to be a good friend like Rainbow fish. We worked as a team to create a piece of Rainbow Fish art and then completed a Rainbow Fish individually. We created a Y chart for what cooperation looks like, sounds like and feels like.

For more information on these lear

ning/language experiences come and have a look in our classroom.

Popcorn

We are learning about the sound p,p,p POPCORN!

This week out focus is on the sound 'p' "Pippy Pig/Popcorn"

It would be helpful if you could talk to your child about this sound, find things that begin with this sound around the house and write the letter p.

We are learning to use a y chart to identify the 5 senses (what does it taste like, sound like, smell like, look like and feel like).

What we did:
We made Popcorn

Swimming

Don't forget to bring your togs on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for swimming! We are learning how to put our head under the water, blow bubbles, float, be safe in and around the pool, to develop water confidence and to have fun in the water.

Assembly

Congratulations on your awards children. Syndicate assembly happens every second Wednesday at 2.30-2.55pm in Room 2 (Miss Allen's Room).

Tee Pee

This year Room 2 has a special Tee Pee. This links into our inquiry "Soooo, Who Belongs Here?" I wanted all of the children to feel that they had an extra special class that they belong to. This also linked into our learning about Elmer the Elephant who was very special and unique because he was a patchwork Elephant. Just like all of the children in Room 2 are special and unique. We then made head pieces (based loosely on Native American Headdresses) They all created a special different and unique head piece representing that we are all different and special.
